Rejoicing Because I’m Blessed

I was recently mentioned in an article that may have been the reason you’re visiting my site. I love it when people do things that cause others to visit me. Please, since you’re here, spend some time looking around.

Things you should notice are the absence of vitriol, bitterness, whining, complaining and just general cussedness that you found in the article that brought you here. This is because I’m not that kind of guy. Oh, I do commit all those sins, but fortunately, I usually do them in my head and am able to confess them as sin before they pop out and mess anyone else up. I’m not perfect.

The part of the letter that I’m mentioned in seems to be complaining because I wanted a wife to love her family in the way that God commands. A simple example of this would be Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord” (Eph 5:22). Actually, she was obeying her husband in the same way she was obeying the Lord. That was the problem. She wasn’t obeying the Lord and thus not submitting to her husband.

So, I don’t apologize for what I did that brought my name up. It is unfortunate that the author of the article, who obviously had the letter, didn’t read it well enough to notice that its point wasn’t beat her up, but rather to draw her back to Jesus.

The letter referred to 1 Thessalonians 5:14, which says, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.” What we were doing by suspending her from the Lord’s supper was warning her that she was in danger.

The letter was an attempt to help her restore fellowship with God, with her husband, with the church, and to save their marriage.

It failed.

And me? I’m rejoicing in the Lord. Jesus said, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Mt 5:11–12).
