Things to consider before signing up
- Because of the kinds of relationships the military/police have, the Christian will need to be unusually strong in his faith in order to maintain his faith.
- He should be prepared to be aggressive in his faith.
- If he doesn’t let folks know he is a Christian right away, it will be almost impossible to let them know later.
- If he is not winsome, bold, humorous, and really really wise, his life in the unit will be Hell.
- He should be prepared to be better than everyone else at what they are doing. Any weakness will be blamed on his being a Christian. And it will be pointed out.
- He must be prepared to live under a microscope. Everyone will be watching every move he makes and will be commenting on it and holding him to his Christian commitment. This is true even if no one else is doing what they say is right.
- He must be prepared to stand for Christ in the face of incredible situations. He cannot check his brains, scriptural commitments, ethics, morals at the door. He must be a Christian to the core.
- He must be prepared to disobey orders when the commanders send him to persecute Christians.
- He must know the difference between arresting Christians for breaking the law and arresting Christians for not breaking God’s law.
- And he must know, before he joins, what he will do in each case.
- He must be prepared to leave his family for short and long periods of time.
- Is he loving his wife by leaving her?
- Is he able to bring his children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord if he is gone?
- He must be prepared to leave them permanently if he dies or is made an invalid in the line of duty.
- Has he thought this through?
- This last one may be the most important. Is he doing this because he wants to serve his God as a ministry? Or is he doing this because he is a macho fathead who wants to show people how manly he is? Or something else?
