Bearing Suffering & Misfortune

But how can I pay for what God has done for me? Well, I can drink the cup cheerfully and can praise and thank the name of my Lord. That is to say, I can bear my suffering and misfortune with gladness, singing, “Alleluia!” “This do, and thou shalt live.” Christ our Lord, “which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ,” and he will do the same in all of us although we are poor sinners. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us.” Herewith I earnestly commit you to his keeping. Letters of Spiritual Counsel, Martin Luther. P. 40.
