Always Butting

The director of the conference based the morning devotions at breakfast on the Twenty-Third Psalm. This morning I awoke a bit blue in my spirits. My dear Sara lies in the hospital again and we are trying to get her into a medical center under an endocrinologist who should know more about her strange malady. But there is a delay in securing a room. My loneliness seemed intensified while old fears and dreads and doubts assailed me from the devil’s headquarters. This morning the devotional message reminded us that we are the Lord’s sheep but some of us are more like billy goats—always “butting.” “Yes. I know the Lord is my Shepherd BUT… I’m growing old and who is going to care for me? What if l get sick and my helpmeet cannot come to my aid?” The devotional speaker did not know that he had a prize-wining old billy goat right beside him at the table! Though I Walk Through The Valley, Vance Havner, p. 27.
